'No drama' - Brendan Rodgers gives update on Youri Tielemans' Leicester City future

Brendan Rodgers has said that he will "respect" any choice made by Youri Tielemans over his future at Leicester City but would "love" to see him extend his time at the club.

City have been in contract talks with the midfielder for over a year with the player entering the final 12 months of his current deal when the summer transfer window opens.

That has led to speculation over his future with a number of clubs said to be interested in a possible summer move.

Tielemans has been a key player in the team since moving from Monaco, initially on loan, in January 2019, before making the deal permanent the following summer.

City have been boosted with news that three big players in James Justin, Ricardo Pereira and Wesley Fofana have all signed new contracts at the club, with some hoping that the trio of deals could persuade Tielemans to follow suit.

Speaking ahead of the Premier League clash vs Arsenal, Rodgers said that the midfielder has still not made a firm decision on his future.

“I think the players signing show that we’re heading in the direction that we want to be in, we’re a club that’s competitive at the top end of the league,” he said.

“He’s got a big choice to make at some point, Youri, but as I’ve repetitively said, we’ve no concern with his mentality, we’d love him to stay, we want him to stay, he’s been a massive part of my time here.”

The City boss added that Tielemans will continue to be given time to make his decision.

“It’s a real pleasure to work with him and see his progress as well but he has to take his time and decide and if he feels that this is the place for him to be, absolutely brilliant, we’ll be delighted, as will the supporters,” he added.
