Harry Maguire has proven Brendan Rodgers right following woeful season at Manchester United

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers had already warned Harry Maguire about the pressures he was likely to face at Manchester United prior to his move from the Foxes.

Maguire moved to Old Trafford in 2019 for a whopping £80m. In 2020 he was appointed United captain, however, the former Hull City man has struggled to live up to the expectations that come with the role.

This season Maguire has been heavily criticised following a number of sloppy displays. England boss Gareth Southgate showed faith in Maguire by selecting him for his squad for the March internationals, though the crowd at Wembley on Tuesday night opted to boo the United defender both prior to and during the match.

Southgate labelled the reception an 'absolute joke'. Meanwhile, several members of the England squad have since spoken up in support of Maguire.

The 29-year-old is preparing for a reunion with former club Leicester this weekend. Rodgers and Maguire spent roughly six months together at Leicester, and previous comments have now resurfaced showing Rodgers warned Maguire about what to expect after leaving the King Power Stadium.

As per Leicestershire Live, the former Celtic boss said: "For him it was (the right move). I said to him at the time when you leave here and go to a club like Man United the pressure will be like nothing you've ever known. The spotlight will be on you every single day.

"There's a story every day, whether it's true or not, it's there. You have to deal with that. There's a laser focus on you at the big clubs. But he has the common sense, the patience and the resilience to get through it. He is also a very, very good player.
