Newcastle: PIF now targeting 'brilliant' £54m star at St James' Park

Newcastle United target Moussa Diaby would be a fine addition to Eddie Howe’s squad, claims journalist Dean Jones.

The Magpies finished last season strongly to just miss out on a top-half finish, and they do not look likely to rest on their laurels this summer.

The Bayer Leverkusen winger enjoyed an outstanding 2021/22 campaign as he registered 13 goals and 12 assists in the Bundesliga.

His performances helped the German side finish third in the table, meaning they have qualified for next season’s Champions League.

However, Newcastle are interested in tempting him away from Germany, with Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth stating that they are monitoring the £54m-rated star.

Jones thinks Diaby would be an exciting signing for Newcastle’s owners PIF, and has claimed that the 22-year-old would improve Howe’s starting XI.

Talking about Diaby to GIVEMESPORT, Jones said: “I think he’d add a brilliant dynamic to that team. It’s going to cost quite a lot of money if they want to go down that route, but it’s probably an upgrade on anything they’ve got in that position at the moment.”

If Newcastle could get a deal over the line for Diaby, their front three could be mouthwatering in 2022/23.

Callum Wilson missed the majority of last season through injury, but he still managed to get eight goals in 18 league appearances, and looked very sharp in the final weeks of the campaign as he netted a brace on the last day against Burnley.
