New padel courts to be built in Ardwick as sport's expansion continues across Manchester

The rapidly growing racquet sport padel will see another extension into the city centre, as six new courts have found a new location in Ardwick.

The popular racquet sport has seen a meteoric rise in Greater Manchester and the North West, with many clubs and facilities opening across the city in recent years.

The growth of the sport comes as no surprise, with its easy accessibility, court dimensions, and social atmosphere that has seen the game expand exponentially.

The sport has already made a major impression on Manchester, with spots such as Club de Padel on Deansgate Square and The Padel Club in TraffordCity. There are also plans for a site in Prestwich, whilst Pure Padel will also open a new club within a former warehouse in Cheetham Hill this summer as well.

The company Powerleague, based at Manchester Nicholls Community Sports Ground, now hope to capitalise on the ever-blooming success of the sport, and develop new courts in the facility alongside their six artificial football pitches.

With the plans approved by Manchester City Council, it will be located to the north of the Nicholls Ardwick College, on Hyde Road, with new additional facilities being built on Dalberg Street, amongst a commercial and industrial area.

The new installation will feature six new courts, floodlighting, and a new tarmac walkway that will go around both the courts and the existing football pitches. The plans will also feature a canopy that will stretch over the top of all the courts for the sport to be played all year round.

The courts will be formed of a synthetic carpet that will be surrounded by clear glazed panels with mesh fencing
