Police arrest man on East Lancs Road after finding Tesco bag inside car

A man was arrested after police pulled over his car on the East Lancashire Road and found cannabis inside a Tesco bag.

An officer from Merseyside Police's Matrix Roads Policing Unit pulled over the Ford C-Max on the main road near Rainford at around 10.50am yesterday (July 22), the Liverpool Echo reports. The driver stopped and police carried out a search of the car.

Officers found a food delivery bag which contained a Tesco bag. Inside the Tesco carrier bag, they discovered a large cannabis bush.

The driver - a 26-year-old man from Todmorden - was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply a controlled drug Class B (cannabis) and drug driving. He has been released under investigation pending further enquiries.

Police forces are coming together in a national operation to tackle the 'fatal four' behaviours which cause a spike in road users being killed or seriously injured during the month of July. The 'fatal four' includes: speeding, driving under the influence of drink or drugs, not wearing a seatbelt and mobile phone use.

You can report instances of unsafe driving to the police, via calling 101 or submitting an online report on their website. If you have any information about suspected drug supply where you are, contact police on @MerPolCC or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
