Man arrested after spate of burglaries at student accommodation across Manchester

A man has been arrested after a spate of burglaries at student accommodation across Manchester. Police were investigating 20 recent burglaries during eight days between July and August.

The incidents were centred around student accommodation at Hulme Hall, Oxford Place, Billberry Court, Heath Court and Aberdeen House and Whitworth Park.

Greater Manchester Police began investigations into the spate of recent incidents, with appeals issued to the public for information.

On Tuesday (August 6), it was revealed that a 32-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of the burglaries across Manchester. He was taken into custody for questioning.

Police previously said they believed the various burglaries to have been linked and that 'several lines of enquiry' had been explored by officers.

Speaking at the time, Detective Inspector Natalie McDonald said: “We understand the concern this will raise due to the number involved in a short space of time. Regular local patrols are in place to provide visible reassurance while we continue to investigate.

“We would also like to remind local residents of key advice on how to keep their property safe and how to report any incidents to us to help obtain forensic opportunities.

“We understand burglary is one of the most distressing crimes to be involved in as a victim and remain committed on supporting those in our attempts to bring justice.”
