The man police want to speak to following Newton Heath protest

Officers want to speak to this man after disorder broke out near a hotel in north Manchester. Violent scenes erupted outside the Holiday Inn on Oldham Road, in Newton Heath, following a protest last Wednesday (July 31).

Around 40 people gathered before tensions boiled over - with objects hurled at police and a bus targeted. Over the past week, officers have been tracking down people connected with the riot.

Officers believe the man in CCTV footage released tonight may be able to help their investigation into the incident.

One man has already pleaded guilty to violent disorder in court following the incident. But Greater Manchester Police is continuing to investigate the ugly demonstration.

Tonight (August 8), the force has released an image of a man officers want to speak to, with people urged to contact GMP if they recognise him. A GMP spokesperson said: "We are investigating an outbreak of disorder which took place on Oldham Road in Newton Heath on Wednesday, July 31 2024, and are seeking to identify the following person as part of our investigation.

"If you recognise the man pictured, please get in touch with police through the MIPP portal Public Portal (mipp.police.uk). Alternatively, contact us on 101 or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, quoting Operation Swanmore."
