Neil Lennon is Hibs 'first choice' for new manager as Easter Road club make their move

Hibs have reportedly sounded out Neil Lennon over a return to Easter Road.

The Hibees sacked Lee Johnson after a dismal start to the Premiership season that left them rooted to the bottom of the table with three defeats from their opening three games. Johnson was shown the door after a 3i2 home loss to Livingston proved to be the final straw for the Hibs hierarchy.

They've now kicked off the process of finding a replacement. And after Lennon admitted that he'd be willing to have a conversation over a return to the capital club, the Scottish Sun report that they have sounded out the former Celtic gaffer to gauge his interest. Lennon took over from Alan Stubbs back in 2016 and eventually led hibs back to the Premiership after two years in the second tier. His first season back in the top flight was a success as he qualified for Europe, and he narrowly missed out on a runners up spot the following season.

However, things started to go wrong in year three. And following poor run of form into January, a rumoured training ground bust up with members of the squad and then chief executive Leeann Dempster spelled the end for his time in Edinburgh. He was quickly back in management though, replacing brendan Rodgers after his shock departure from Celtic to Leicester City.

He helped deliver a Treble Treble then a Quadruple Treble a year later. However, failure to deliver a historic tenth title on the spin resulted in Lennon resigning in February 2021 amid fan protests outside of Parkhead.

His last job saw him win the Cypriot Cup with Omonia Nicosia and qualification for the Europa League group stage before being harshly dismissed. Now Hibs have reportedly made him their No 1 target but it remains to be seen whether Lennon's interest
