Neil Lennon in 'watch this space' Hibs return tease as smirking boss would have no concerns about going back

"Watch this space," is the message from Neil Lennon as the Irishman eyes up a second spell as Hibs boss.

And he says he'd have no concerns about going back to Easter Road despite the way things ended the first time around. Reports on Tuesday night suggested the former Celtic boss is the current frontrunner to replace Lee Johnson and he's been firmly installed as the bookies' favourite to take the reins as the Leith board look for stability. Nick Montgomery, however, remains firmly in the mix.

With that rumbling on in the background, the Sky Sports studio were always going to address the elephant in the room when he returned to punditry. And it didn't take long for host Julian Warren to ask Lennon if he had "anything to tell" the panel about the Hibs links. Lennon replied with a smirk: "Not at the minute, no. But it's a club I worked at before, I had a great couple of seasons there, and it's an attractive prospect for a lot of applicants.

"We'll see, just watch this space. I'd be interested in a conversation, that's for sure."

Lennon returned Hibs to the top flight and re-established them there in his first spell but he left under a cloud in January 2019. Shortly after he was suspended following an exchange with another club employee, he left by mutual consent with a club statement claiming he "had not been dismissed or resigned".

But would the way things ended affect his decision to go back? "No, not at all," he replied to that question. "The board have put a lot of investment into the playing side and the stadium as well. It's a club that hasn't started the season so well, but there's huge potential there.
