Motorway junction closed due to 'police incident'

An M60 junction is closed this afternoon following a 'police incident', authorities have confirmed.

Junction 23 on the motorway, for Ashton-under-Lyne, is currently closed. North West Motorway Police says it is leading the operation ongoing.

"Please be advised that the M60 junction 23 clockwise is closed due to a Police Incident," the force posted on X (formerly known as Twitter) at 11:47am today (August 15).

"All traffic is being brought off at junction 23 onto Manchester Road. We will update you as soon as we can re-open the Main Carriageway."

We've just had this through from Inrix, a traffic monitoring service: "Queueing traffic due to earlier police incident on M60 clockwise at J23 A635 Manchester Road (Ashton Under Lyne).

"All lanes have been re-opened. The road was blocked at around 11:35 before traffic was released at 12:05."
