Swansea street closed for over seven hours after man climbed onto roof after 'disturbance'

A street in Swansea was closed for over seven hours while police dealt with a 'disturbance''. Broughton Avenue in Portmead was closed between Fforestfach and Penylan from around 2:35am on Thursday, August 24.

According to traffic monitoring system INRIX, the road was blocked in both directions between "Woodford Road to Knelston Place." The road appeared to have re-opened shortly after 9:30am.

A spokesperson for South Wales Police said: "South Wales Police was called at 2.35am this morning, Thursday 24th August, with a report of a disturbance on Broughton Avenue, Blaenymaes. Officers attended and a man climbed onto a roof. A cordon was put in place whilst the incident was being dealt with. The 22-year-old man came down from the roof just before 9.10am."

They added that a man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of affray and placed in police custody.

"We would like to thank residents for their patience and cooperation whilst the incident was brought to a safe conclusion," added the spokesperson.
