Motherwell sign former St Johnstone striker amid injury woes in forward line

Motherwell have bolstered their striking options ahead of the Premiership season kicking-off on Saturday, with the signing of former St Johnstone forward Theo Bair.

The 23-year-old Canadian international left the Perth club just last month and he has now penned a two-year deal at Fir Park.

He arrives with the Steelmen needing striking options, with Jo Efford out and Jon Obika struggling with a hamstring issue, while Connor Wilkinson is a major doubt for their opener at Dundee after suffering a black eye in Saturday's Viaplay Cup win over East Fife.

Bair is set to make his debut on Saturday when Motherwell start their top flight campaign away to Dundee and the new boy says he is raring to go.

He told the Motherwell website: "It’s great say I’m a Motherwell player.

“I’m looking forward to meeting up with my new teammates ahead of our season opener on Saturday.

“The manager wants me to do a job, so I will get to work straight away and try to hold up my end of the deal.”

Bair made 38 appeanaces for Saints last season, but scored just once.

He has experience of the MLS, having come through at Vancouver Whitecaps and making 34 outings for the first team and scoring three times, while he also had a spell in Nowau with second tier side Hamarkameratene.

Gaffer Stuart Kettlewell said: "Theo is someone who I feel will add to our project here.

“He has experience of playing in the league but more importantly, he is only 23-years-old.

"I feel he has plenty room for development and that is something we should be excited about.

“I’ve been vocal about wanting to improve our options up top and Theo fits the bill for that.”
