Moshiri made costly Everton howler in 2020, fans will now be absolutely fuming - opinion

Everton have had a number of youth products who have thrived after coming through the academy, with Wayne Rooney one of the most notable to date, and the likes of Anthony Gordon are making a huge impact on the current Toffees side after coming through the youth system at the club.

While the 20-year-old is a perfect example of the club getting the development right and making the right decision to further include him in the first team, Farhad Moshiri is renowned for making mistakes and reckless moves when it comes to signing and offloading players, with one of his more recent decisions to offload a youth player among the biggest errors in the owner’s locker.

One rising talent who has been in the spotlight this week is Mohamed-Ali Cho, who was voted as the 33rd young player to watch in FourFourTwo‘s top 50 most exciting teenagers in world football, and Moshiri will be kicking himself as the 18-year-old is thriving after he was let go by Everton in 2020.

Cho blossomed in the Toffees academy for five years, securing two England under-16 appearances after the club picked him up from the Paris Saint-Germain youth academy, but he was tempted away from Merseyside when French side Angers offered him a professional contract in his native country.

The Frenchman was given the opportunity to thrive in the Ligue 1 side this season, scoring two goals so far for Angers, and he regularly features in the France under-21 squad since he was given a more consistent role at his current club.

Angers manager Gerard Baticle has spoken out with high praise for Cho, saying: “He’s an intelligent young footballer, open-minded and cultured. He’s very receptive to advice and often asks for it.”
