Newcastle United fans will love Alan Shearer's picks for his Premier League Team of the Week

Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has included Magpies duo Matt Targett and Joe Willock in his latest Premier League Team of the Week.

Eddie Howe's side picked up a point on the road against West Ham United, maintaining a four-point gap between themselves and 18th-placed Watford in the table.

Targett has slotted in seamlessly at left-back for Eddie Howe's side and excelled both defensively and offensively at the London Stadium, meanwhile Willock reminded supporters of his ability with a fantastic display in midfield.

He also notched the equaliser on the stroke of half-time with an intelligent finish, opening his account for the season in the process.

Both have thrived under the tutelage of Howe, who has overseen a rejuvenation at St James' Park with the help of some January transfer window additions.

Targett may not have been the most high profile new addition to Howe's squad but has certainly been one of the most impressive, if not the most impressive, so far.

Another recent recruit, Dan Burn, lined up alongside Targett in the back four for Newcastle and caught the eye with a commanding performance at centre-back, although did not earn a place in Shearer's side.

Newcastle's back four of Emil Krafth, Fabian Schar, Burn and Targett was tasked with keeping West Ham's array of attacking talent at bay, a challenge several sides have found difficult this season.

The dangerous Michail Antonio started as a lone forward, playing in front of a supporting cast of Jarrod Bowen, Said Benrahma and Pablo Fornals.

Craig Dawson opened the scoring from a set-piece Newcastle should have defended better but for most of the match, Howe's men defended well and looked the more organised of the two sides.
