Orthodontic specialist Katarina Krajacic, one of the team overseeing Gvardiol’s treatment, said: “More and more athletes are seeking support from orthodontists and posture specialists in order to improve their performance.

“When the upper and lower teeth don’t come together properly because of the size or positioning of the teeth and jaw, it’s called malocclusion.

“This impacts your ability to chew, your oral health and the appearance of your smile, but it also plays a role in your posture, which can make a big difference to an athlete’s performance.

“Many studies have found a direct connection between malocclusion and postural body stability, and it is an area that is increasingly being explored by athletes determined to improve."
