Mikey Johnston leaves Celtic fans with pound signs in their eyes as 'outrageous' winger delivers best West Brom feat yet

Mikey Johnston kicked his West Brom revival up a gear with his best moment yet since joining the Baggies.

The spotlight was on the West Midlands on Friday night as the Sky Sports cameras were in place and it took Johnston just a few minutes to ensure he was the centre of attention with a stunning opening goal. The on-loan Celtic winger fired in his third goal on just his third start in the early stages of their Championship clash with Coventry, brilliantly curling one in from the left hand side of the box with just five minutes on the clock.

West Brom labelled him 'Magic Mike' in their tweet celebrating the goal - a moniker that might just stick if his impressive form keeps up. At the time of scoring, he averaged a goal for every 101 minutes of football he had played since his move south.

One punter wrote on X during the game: "Mikey Johnston moved to West Brom and became a Ballon d'Or candidate, while another noted: "He is outrageous when he's on song." And a cheeky Baggies fans is hoping to land him for free as he added: "Any Celtic fans wondering how Mikey Johnston is doing at West Brom?? Absolute crap you should terminate his contract…"

Andy Hinchliffe was on co-commentary for the game and he was left raving with Johnston's display when he went off during the second half. He said: "This is how you endear yourself to a new set of fans. It's not the first time he's done it, but none of them were as big as this. Brilliant from Mikey Johnston."
