Michael Beale sees bold Rangers claim come back to bite him as 2021 interview clip doesn't age well

A 2021 clip from Michael Beale has re-emerged on social media - and his claim that there's 'no way' Celtic would have pipped him and Steven Gerrard to the title hasn't aged especially well.

Beale is under severe pressure after defeat to Aberdeen was their third in just seven league games and they are already SEVEN points off Celtic. Fans in Govan are furious as boos rung out around Ibrox at full-time, many feeling Beale's race has now been run.

He says he isn't sure what the future holds and faces an uphill battle from here. It comes just ten months on from his appointment, which came following Gio van Bronckhorst's sacking. Speaking shortly before the Dutchman's dismissal though, Beale said in an interview that he and Gerrard - who led Rangers to title 55 in 2020 and left for Aston Villa in November the following season - would have done what Gio couldn't and beat Postecoglou to the post.

Gerrard's team led the way early on that season but after he and Beale headed south, the tide shifted with Gio van Bronckhorst unable to press home the advantage. But speaking just nine days before Van Bronckhorst was sacked, Beale told BT Sport there was "no way" they would have let their four-point advantage slip.

He said: "We always had maximum support from the board. I always felt they wanted to deliver more than they could. After we had won 55, the next thing is kick on, recruit again.

"We knew the title was what one or two players had come to achieve, so did they have that hunger to go again? We'd like to have recruited one or two more but the finances weren't there.
