Rangers DOF search taking too long as Craig Moore reveals early Beale fear that's come back to 'bite' them

Craig Moore insists Rangers' hunt for a director of football has taken far too long, and revealed he feared it proved costly when Michael Beale was first appointed.

CEO James Bisgrove confirmed that the Ibrox club are still looking for someone to fill the role and work with new manager Philippe Clement. However, as exclusively revealed by Record Sport, Brighton transfer guru Sam Jewell has not been offered the gig in Govan. But Moore is aghast that the role remains vacant, and revealed he made his fears known to Ally McCoist way back when Beale returned to Ibrox to take the top job.

Since then, the Londoner has overseen an expensive summer shopping spree and a number of his big money signings have so far flopped, ultimately cost him his job. Moore believes that Gers needed one then so as not to waste millions, and still do now. He told GO Radio: "They need one. They absolutely need one and what they don't need is an administrator. They need someone with football experience.

"It should never have taken this long, because it's an important role. And I think it's an important role at any football club.

"I had a discussion with Ally McCoist early, early when Michael Beale first got the job and we talked about a director of football. Coisty thought that wasn't the most important thing. It's players, get the players in for the manager.

"This was my concern at that particular time and it's something that's come back to bite Rangers in the bottom, unfortunately. They didn't have that in place, they spent a lot of money and the person should have been in there.
