Met Office apologises after mistakenly issuing severe weather warnings

The Met Office has left users of its website baffled by issuing a severe hot weather warning for the UK - in November.

The weather agency issued the alert on Thursday and it was still appearing on Friday - despite temperatures being around a cool 9°C. The alert on the Met Office website and app read: “Severe High Temperatures Warning. These conditions started at 10.46 on Thursday 28 November.”

The weather service later explained that they were test warnings that had appeared in error and clarified there were no Met Office Severe Weather Warnings currently in force.

One social media user contacted the Met Office and said: “It says high temperature warning for Liverpool that's obviously not true, remove it.”

They added: “It's been there for like a whole day now.”

Another posted: “Since when was 9 degrees considered a high temperature?”

In response to the confused posts, the Met Office wrote: "We're aware of an issue where test weather warnings were displayed on some websites & apps. We are working with partners to ensure these test warnings are being removed, and we’re sorry for any inconvenience.

"There are currently no Met Office Severe Weather Warnings in force."
