Met Office say 'nothing can be ruled out' as they issue white Christmas verdict

Christmas is just round the corner and for many Brits who like to plan their holidays, they might be looking to the weather forecast to see if we might see snow over the festive period.

The Met Office has released its in-depth weather forecast which covers the next week and beyond, stretching into the week of Christmas, the week commencing 23 December.

This forecast uses various different computer model runs to predict the weather, and they look at the average across different models to predict the most accurate forecast.

While the Met Office forecast reveals high pressure to the west or southwest of the UK which could lead to unsettled conditions across the country, they have said that there are currently no strong signals that we might get a white Christmas.

Met Office meteorologist Aidan McGivern said on the YouTube forecast: "There are certainly no signs of a strong signal for a white Christmas but nothing could be ruled out right at this stage and it would be foolish to take one computer model run and go with that."

The weather agency reassured Brits that they will be keeping a close eye on the weather as it evolves in the run up to Christmas and will be updating the forecast. They publish a 10-day trend as well as a 14-day outlook which looks at all the latest information.

According to the Met Office's long-range forecast, which currently stretches until Christmas Eve (24 December), the weather is expected to remain rainy and unsettled.

It reads: "Occasional spells of rain followed by blustery showers are likely, these most frequent and perhaps wintry at times in the northwest. It may be quite windy at times
