'Mesmerising' - Bristol Rovers insider's view on Sheffield Wednesday target Elliot Anderson

Sheffield Wednesday are big admirers of Newcastle United starlet Elliot Anderson. The Scotland Under-21 international is regarded as one of the brightest prospects the Magpies have produced in years.

Anderson starred on loan at Bristol Rovers in the 2021/22 season, hitting eight goals in 20 appearances to help Joey Barton's side pip Northampton Town to the third automatic promotion spot. The attack-minded player is set to feature in Newcastle's pre-season schedule following his impressive performances.

But it is conceivable will be loaned out again next season to speed up his development. Yorkshire Live caught up with Sam Frost, the Bristol Rovers reporter for Bristol Live, to get the inside track on Anderson's loan spell at the Memorial Stadium.

Simply incredible. Rovers had started to find form by the time he arrived in January but he would have a transformative effect on the team.

It quickly became apparent he was a class above the level and he provided many moments of inspiration along the way as the Gas clinched promotion in remarkable style. His seven goals and six assists were crucial in powering Rovers into the top three and he has etched his name into club folklore; he was certainly one of the club's best-ever loan signings.

Barton deployed him on the left wing and he was a great fit there with his ability to cut inside, but he could play anywhere in midfield. He has the passing range and vision to play deeper, but that would be a waste of his attacking ability.

For his size, he is incredibly powerful. League Two is not lacking in bruising defenders but full-backs would bounce off the Geordie's frame.
