Match of the Day pundit praises two Manchester United players following win vs Fulham

Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy hailed Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay following Manchester United's dramatic 1-0 win over Fulham at Craven Cottage on Saturday afternoon.

Bruno Fernandes netted a 91st-minute winner to halt the Reds' two-game winless run and ensure a difficult week ended on a high. They had travelled to the capital on the back of successive 3-0 home defeats to Manchester City and Newcastle United.

Though United's performance was far from glittering, they dug in to find a winner and secured what could turn out to be a priceless three points come the end of the campaign. Fernandes stepped up when United needed their captain most to score what was just his third goal of the season.

Though the 29-year-old's late heroics meant he dominated the post-match headlines, it was the performances of Maguire and McTominay that stood out most for Match of the Day pundit Murphy. He was impressed by the duo's endeavour and determination to leave everything on the pitch.

"I think the two big positives are Maguire and McTominay," Murphy told the Football Daily podcast. "Two players who are playing for the shirt, putting it all in.

"Two players who actually people wouldn't have been too upset if they'd gone in the summer, but both showed a desire to stay at the club and keep the shirt which is important."

Maguire, who has been a regular fixture in manager Erik ten Hag's plans in recent weeks, was arguably United's standout performer, dealing with everything that came his way. He defended stoutly and displayed signs of leadership at the back.
