Manhunt launched after woman, 85, punched by man who broke into her home

Police are hunting a burglar who attacked a pensioner in her own home. The 85-year-old victim was confronted in her house in Romiley, Stockport last night (Thursday, September 28) by a man who punched her, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said.

She is being treated for her injuries. The force said thankfully these are not believed to be serious. The culprit is still at large following the 'truly shocking' attack on Oakwood Road at around 7:30pm.

And GMP are now appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information to come forward. The attacker was around 5ft 11in tall, and was wearing dark clothing, the force said.

Detective Inspector Chris Aunins of Stockport CID said: “This is a truly shocking incident and our thoughts are with the victim as she recovers from this terrible ordeal.

“I want to provide some reassurance to the community that we’re doing all we can to identify this attacker and bring him to justice. We are pursuing active lines of enquiry and will add extra patrols to the Romiley area.

“Our aim is to prevent any further serious incidents going forward as our main priority is to keep the public safe.”
