Woman with MS left outside home for an hour after student blocked her driveway

A woman who suffers from MS says she was stuck outside her house for more than an hour after a student parked their car right in front of her driveway.

Gail Roberts lives on Queensway, Derby, near the Kedleston Road and Marketon Street campuses of the University of Derby. Signs on her street clearly state that the road is access only, however Mrs Roberts claims that students frequently cause issues for her accessing her own driveway.

On Thursday, October 5, things came to a head when she returned home after visiting her local church and discovered she couldn't access her own driveway. The student who blocked her eventually turned up and an argument followed, Derbyshire Live reports.

Mrs Roberts said: "I'm bordering between exploding and bursting into tears. It's very unfair. The students are contravening regulations by parking here. It's just ridiculous.

"This year it's just worse than ever. No-one seems interested in helping. What do I do?" While many houses on the Queensway service road strip are boarded up following an agreement with owners to a compulsory purchase scheme as part of a plan to redesign the A38, Mrs Roberts and her husband still live in the same house they have done for the past 12 years.

Mrs Roberts highlighted that students regularly park on the strip to some degree, but that the problem became much worse after houses were sold off. She claims that her carer and mother both had to turn around and drive off earlier in the week because there was no room for them to park.
