Manchester United youngster Kobbie Mainoo names 'end goal for the season' after England call-up

Manchester United's young star, Kobbie Mainoo, has his sights set on earning a spot in England's Euro 2024 squad. This comes as the teenager's rapid rise to the senior team continues, with his first call-up already under his belt.

Mainoo, who is just 18, has long been seen as a future star for Old Trafford. Since recovering from an ankle ligament injury he got during pre-season, he's become a key player in Erik ten Hag's team.

The young midfielder really shone in his first Premier League start against Everton in November. He was named Man of the Match and got his first call-up to play for England just 114 days later.

At first, he was named in the under-21s team. But after United's thrilling 4-3 FA Cup quarter-final win against Liverpool, he was moved up to the senior squad for friendly matches against Brazil and Belgium.

"It's been a pretty mad couple of days," Mainoo told BBC Radio 5 Live. "Sunday obviously was a great game and a great win, then to get called up to the under-21s obviously I was excited to come.

"Then getting down here and realising that I was with the first team was amazing.

"I was shocked and happy and it's been a whirlwind of emotions."

Mainoo thought he was just being called up to train with the senior side. It wasn't until he spoke to Gareth Southgate's assistant Steve Holland that he realised he'd actually been promoted.

When he called his family in Stockport to tell them the good news, they were "buzzing". And so, Mainoo's rapid rise continues.
