Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag explains why he is not surprised by Kobbie Mainoo's England impact

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is "proud" of Kobbie Mainoo's development after he was named man of the match on his full England debut.

Mainoo attained his first England cap against Brazil exactly four months on from his first Premier League start and he lined up in the 2-2 draw with Belgium three days later.

The 18-year-old is now widely expected to be named in Gareth Southgate's squad for the European Championship and Mainoo has started 15 of United's past 16 matches.

Ten Hag is no stranger to keeping players in check but clarified Mainoo has not crossed any lines during his time at United as he is so focused on improving.

"I thought it was very good but we are not surprised," Ten Hag said of Mainoo's impact on international duty. "We know what he is capable of, he can very quickly adapt to high levels. It looks very natural and we are very happy for him.

“Fun for him is to play
