Manchester United transfer move for Victor Osimhen comes with one obvious drawback

Manchester United were desperate to add guaranteed goals to their side last summer and they had to gamble on adding them instead. Erik ten Hag identified Harry Kane as his 'dream' addition to the forward line but United operated under the assumption Tottenham would not sell their star man. At least not to them.

United went on to sign Rasmus Hojlund and Kane moved to Bayern Munich. It's hard to ignore how different things might have been had they secured a world-class striker rather than someone who could become one.

Hojlund has improved in recent weeks but he remains a divisive figure. Depending on how you look at it, he either has two goals in his last two Premier League appearances or two in his last sixteen.

He is either a player who has shown enough as to why he could be the world-class centre-forward they always needed, or shown enough as to why that is unlikely given the huge pressure on his shoulders.

United will definitely move for another striker this summer; the only uncertainty is just how experienced they will be and how much they are willing to spend.

As long as Ten Hag is in charge, there will be pressure to make Hojlund work. That makes it less certain they will spend another huge fee, or at least it might have done before Napoli resident Aurelio De Laurentiis confirmed Victor Osimhen would be leaving.

The Nigerian is set to command a huge fee but with that comes a decent bet on goals along with it. He was arguably the most eligible option alongside Kane last summer, but opted to stay in Naples after their historic Serie A win.
