Manchester United transfer decision is more bad news for Antony

It's rather damning for Manchester United. They have spent £205million on right wingers in the last four years and yet their standout option is a left winger, who cost them £100,000 instead.

Jadon Sancho has been allowed to leave the club on loan already this month and Antony is now playing back up to Alejandro Garnacho in his favourite position. That is almost £160m of unfilled potential.

It is most concerning for United that Antony was the latest of those additions and the man who was tipped to finally put an end to their issues on the right wing.

They signed him for an inflated fee and he has rarely looked like a player worth the initial £25m he was valued at by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's scouting team, never mind the enormous £86m fee they eventually paid for him. He is the second-most expensive signing in the club's history and has been nowhere near good enough.

Antony is now not only the second choice on the right wing behind Garnacho but he could soon drop to their third choice as well. United are planning to keep Amad beyond the closure of the January transfer window, with Facundo Pellistri expected to join Granada on loan for the rest of the season.

Erik ten Hag believes that Amad has an important role to play in the squad and after recovering from injury, he now deserves an opportunity to prove why he is good enough for United. That means being given chances ahead of Antony.
