Manchester United takeover news LIVE as Apple 'mega offer' could persuade Glazers to stay

It is now approaching eight months since the Glazer family announced their intention to put Manchester United up for sale by seeking 'strategic alternatives'.

Since then, several parties have been interested in potentially owning one of the biggest football clubs in the world. There is the prospect that the Glazers' ownership of United, which has been critiscised for the debt they have heaped onto the Old Trafford club, could come to an end.

Two parties have declared their interest and submitted bids to buy the Reds. But both approaches are very different in their nature and do not have the same outcome, whichever one is eventually selected, should one be chosen.

Qatari Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani's bid proposes a complete takeover of United. That approach would see the club's debt wiped out and the Glazers no longer at Old Trafford.

The alternative approach comes from boyhood United fan Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his Ineos company. This proposes a majority stake in United which would see the Glazers remain at the club, but no longer in overall control and having a minority share instead.

The Glazers initially announced their intention to sell United in November, but there has been no communication from them since. It remains to be seen what their ultimate decision will be.
