Manchester United takeover latest as Sir Jim Ratcliffe's stance explained and Glazers defended

Manchester United fans are desperate for a resolution to the takeover saga.

It was back in November 2022 when the Glazers announced they had put the club on the market. Since then, there have been two leading candidates in the race to buy the Premier League giants.

Qatari billionaire, Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani, has lodged a bid which would see him buy 100 per cent of the club and the Glazers depart. Meanwhile, INEOS chief Sir Jim Ratcliffe has put a 60 per cent offer on the table, which keeps the door open for the American family to remain.

INEOS' director of sport, Sir Dave Brailsford, says Sir Jim Ratcliffe is still "very keen" to complete a takeover of Manchester United with the process set to enter its eighth month.

Brailsford - who also works at OGC Nice, bought by INEOS in 2019 - is the principal of Team Sky, which is currently taking part in the Tour de France.

There, he was approached for an update on INEOS’ bid for United. He underlined that the company and Ratcliffe are very much still hopeful that a takeover deal can be struck.
