Manchester United takeover latest as ex-striker sets out what fans want from new owners

Manchester United fans are keenly awaiting further news on the takeover progress.

Currently, supporters are waiting to hear from the Glazer family as the sale process rumbles on. Since November, the American owners have not outlined where the two frontrunners Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani and Sir Jim Ratcliffe stand.

It is not 100 per cent clear whether the Glazers will even sell the club, albeit reports suggest Sheikh Jassim is leading the way. While United fans are divided on who they want to see takeover, there is a general consensus the current ownership are needing to go.

In MEN Sport's takeover headlines, one former striker has explained what the fans are wanting from a new owner.

Speaking to Sky Bet Fan Hope Survey, Teddy Sheringham believes the new owner, whoever it may be, needs to showcase his passion for the football club. He said: "You have to go for [an owner] that has the passion as the Manchester United supporters. That’s what the supporters want in charge – as long as they have the passion for wanting the team to do better and not just using it [the club] as a business, then they’ll be very happy."
