'Generational damage' - Manchester United fan group fear Glazers could prolong takeover further

Manchester United fan group The 1958 is concerned the Glazers will continue to prolong the takeover for at least another year as frustration continues to grow among supporters.

Back in November, the American owners announced they had launched a 'strategic review' into the running of United. At the time, it was stated all options remained on the table including a takeover.

Since then, two main candidates have emerged to buy the club. Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al-Thani and Sir Jim Ratcliffe. The former is looking to purchase the entirety of United leading to the Glazers' exit whereas the INEOS chief has proposed a 60 per cent offer which opens the door for the current leadership to remain.

Meanwhile, supporter sentiment towards the Glazers is at an all-time low and The 1958 have led the way for protesting against the owners. Recently, a protest was organised outside Old Trafford's Superstore on the day United announced their new home shirt.

In an interview with BBC Sport, The 1958 explained why they are opposed to the current regime. "The fanbase is big and fractured, lots of people have lots of opinions," two members of the group explained.

"The minute someone puts their head above the parapet, you will be judged. This family have inflicted untold damage, generational damage, on our club.

"It is personal and real to us. It is community. It is family.

"A lot of United fans would happily see United go down if it meant that the Glazer family left. Look at what happened when the Glazers came in - some fans went on to form another
