Manchester United takeover latest as Sheikh Jassim bid 'close to winning'

Manchester United fans have been waiting for news on the takeover for several months with progress being slow-going.

The Glazer family have opted not to provide clarity on the sale since announcing in November they were exploring 'strategic alternatives' in regards to the ownership of the club. During the Reds' pre-season tour of the United States, Avram Glazer was asked by reporters about the sale but refused to give an answer.

What we do know is Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al-Thani and Sir Jim Ratcliffe are the two men battling it out for United. During the close season, rumours circulated regarding the former being in pole position to take over.

It is claimed the Qatari banker is willing to pay £6bn for United. Should this move go through, the Glazers will be leaving the club upon completion.

Sheikh Jassim has previously made clear his commitment to improving Carrington and Old Trafford.

Manchester United's takeover situation has become the drawn out affair which many feared would happen.
