Manchester United still haven't solved one big problem

Manchester United seem to take two steps forward and three steps back.

A promising October and November - at least domestically - saw United pick up 15 points from their six league matches to close in on the top-four positions. That was until they set off on their improvised journey to St. James' Park and saw expectations come crashing back down.

It was not so much that United slipped to defeat against their Champions League rivals as the manner of it. The match was the most dominant 1-0 imaginable and United also displayed some old, regrettable habits. There is one recurring problem the Reds cannot overcome - and it is one Wayne Rooney warned them about it in 2021 and that Paul Scholes reiterated over the weekend.

Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford regularly have the finger pointed at them when it comes to showing poor body language. However, while Rashford took centre stage in that respect on Saturday night, the forward was by no means the only guilty party and United's attitude left Paul Scholes fuming. He was not the only one. "Rubbish," said the club's iconic former midfielder turned pundit.

Scholes, who needs no introduction for his success at Old Trafford and beyond, carries plenty of weight with his words and needed only one to accurately surmise United's display in the Newcastle reverse. But what the 49-year-old said next was particularly damning, if not unique.
