Full list of road closures for Chanel's big fashion show in Manchester this week
Preparations for Chanel's big fashion show in Manchester are well under way now. A huge structure is being built in the Northern Quarter where the Métiers d'Art event will welcome celebrities, fashionistas and other VIP guests from around the world next week.
The temporary canopy in Thomas Street, which is thought to be where the outdoor catwalk will be staged, means that access to the area has been limited over the last couple of weeks. Some businesses are being paid by the fashion house to stay shut for a few days.
One bar has been paid £47,000 to stay closed for 'a couple of weeks', the M.E.N understands, while one shop that remains open is reportedly receiving £500 for the disruption. Some road closures are also planned ahead of the event on Thursday (December 7).

Manchester council has confirmed which roads will be closed in order to facilitate a 'Northern Quarter Event'. The M.E.N. understands that this is the codename that town hall staff have been using to refer to the international fashion show which is shrouded in secrecy.
Pedestrian and vehicular access to Thomas Street has been prohibited from its junction with John Street or at the High Street end for chunks of each day since November 16. Last week, Thomas Street was shut off from both John Street and High Street every morning, but from Monday (December 4) it will be closed off completely and not reopen until midday on Friday (December 8) after the event.
