Manchester United still unclear over Andre Onana AFCON involvement

Erik ten Hag remained unclear when asked whether Andre Onana would be representing Cameroon at next month's African Cup of Nations.

The Manchester United goalkeeper returned to international duty earlier this year and is expected to be called up to represent his country at the tournament next month. Onana could miss as many as eight matches while representing Cameroon and would most certainly miss a couple of games regardless of how well his nation does in the competition.

The 27-year-old is firmly the first-choice at Old Trafford and while Ten Hag insists he has faith in his backup options, he was unclear on whether or not Onana was actually going to be away at all.

"I am quite comfortable with the fact," Ten Hag answered when asked about the goalkeeper's recent form. "First of all, Andre Onana, in the Premier League has performed very well, and at Anfield, it was a great performance from him.

"When he is going there, I think we have a strong couple of keepers with Bayindir and Tom Heaton so we are comfortable. Of course, we are hoping Onana is available as much as possible. But if not, we have two good keepers who can replace him."

When pushed for clarity on the situation, Ten Hag added: "We have discussed it but I am very comfortable." Asked for the third time if the keeper is going to AFCON or not, he replied: "I can’t answer this question at the moment but if they call him up, you know the regulations."
