Manchester United sign free agent goalkeeper

Manchester United have signed young goalkeeper Kie Plumley in their latest overhaul of the position.

The 20-year-old joins the club after being released by Oxford United at the end of last season, where he gained plenty of experience through loan spells.

Plumley never made a senior appearance during his time with Oxford, but he was named on the bench seven times during his spell with the League One club.

The boyhood United fan also gained valuable experience during loan spells with lower league clubs Weston-super-Mare and Beaconsfield.

Plumley is expected to occupy a back-up role in United's youth sides over the coming season and has been registered as one of the eligible U21 players on the club's Premier League squad list.

United have 56 youngsters eligible for the list, so the inclusion of Plumley is by no means an indication of any senior involvement during his time at the club.

It has been a busy few months for United in the goalkeeper department following the release of David de Gea, the sale of Dean Henderson, and the signings of Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir. United also sold young goalkeepers Nathan Bishop and Matej Kovar.
