Manchester United's record-breaking youngster once compared to Paul Scholes has a new club

At first glance, you'd be forgiven for thinking Shola Shoretire had signed for Newcastle.

Shoretire was born in Tyneside and wore black and white stripes for his unveiling photo, but he has signed for PAOK, not Newcastle, after leaving Manchester United.

Although United offered Shoretire a new contract and were hopeful he'd sign an extension, he rejected fresh terms and departed upon his contract expiry this summer.

Shoretire has joined PAOK, who are the Greek champions, on a four-year deal and it's a fascinating move for the forward, who made history in February 2021 when he became the youngest player to appear for United in European competition, aged just 17 years and 23 days old.

Shoretire was once compared to Paul Scholes, he was fast-tracked after demonstrating exceptional potential and signed a professional contract at the earliest possible date.

The youngster was given his first-team debut by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer against Newcastle in February 2021 and four days after that game, he played in the Europa League.

Shoretire came on from the bench against Real Sociedad at Old Trafford, writing himself into the club's history books in the process, and Solskjaer was effusive with his praise.

"He's a young kid we believe in," Solskjaer said. "He's got a great attitude, he's an athlete, technically very, very good and makes good decisions. We want to gradually feed him into this team. He's got his feet firmly on the ground. Hopefully we'll see loads of him in the future.
