Paul Scholes gives verdict on whether Arsenal or Man City will win Premier League title

Paul Scholes has tipped Arsenal to beat Manchester City to the Premier League title this season.

The Gunners have been narrowly edged out by Pep Guardiola for two consecutive years, and are expected to mount a third successive title challenge in the 2024/25 season. They've signed Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna, and are reportedly looking to bring in a midfielder and a forward before the window shuts.

But even if they don't, Scholes reckons they have what it takes to end City's stranglehold on the top flight. Speaking to beIN SPORTS, the 49-year-old said: "I think the Premier League favourites will be the same as last year. City will be favourites, closely followed by Arsenal.

"[But] I've said a few times that I expect Arsenal to be the team to win it this year. They've progressed over the last couple of years with Mikel Arteta and I just think this year is the time where they're ready to win it. It's not going to be easy, there's going to be a lot of competition.

"We know the top seven or eight teams in England are good teams. But I just think this year Arsenal will be the team to break the City cycle."

He has a point, as since Arteta took over in December 2019, Arsenal have shown consistent improvement year after year. They ended the 2019/20 season with 56 points, increased to 61 points in 2020/21, and reached 69 in 2021/22.
