Manchester United's dismal season has highlighted six transfer necessities

All across the pitch there are question marks and Manchester United, in a rinse and repeat issue, still cannot get their recruitment right. Too many players have been retained for far too long either through a necessity to provide depth or a lack of interested clubs who can pay the requisite transfer fee or stump up wages. United are stuck in a repetitive cycle.

It's difficult to ink in many names for a first-choice XI just now. Andre Onana is the long-term answer in goal while Lisandro Martinez and Luke Shaw are certain defensive starters when fit while Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford (despite his struggles this season) and Rasmus Hojlund can all merit a place in a leading Premier League XI when at their best.

Look past that though and the squad gaps are so wide you could drive the team bus through there. At a minimum United have six transfer necessities despite splashing out millions in the market in recent years. Here's where the Reds must find improvements:

Diogo Dalot was atrocious on Wednesday night when he simply wasn't at the races. He is a Portugal international and not a bad player but wouldn't be in many elite Premier League squads. Aaron Wan-Bissaka has improved but question marks remain over whether he has the all round game to compete with the best in the division.

Raphael Varane is injury prone, Harry Maguire was deemed not good enough over the summer, Victor Lindelof is short of the level required while Jonny Evans was part of a team relegated from the Premier League last
