Bruno Fernandes names player he 'would love' Manchester United to sign

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has admitted he would love the Reds to sign João Neves.

Neves has been linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent weeks amid United's midfield struggles. Erik ten Hag was keen to freshen up his midfield this summer and reduce the average age of his options in the middle.

24-year-old Mason Mount was brought in from Chelsea, while Sofyan Amrabat joined the club on deadline day on an initial loan move. However, the midfield reinforcements have yet to make their mark at the club and Ten Hag is already being linked with further additions in the engine room.

One of those to have been linked with a switch to M16 is Neves and Fernandes has now given any possible move his seal of approval. The Portugal international was asked about the rumours by Sport TV, to which he replied: "I would love to have him at United, he has top quality! But it’s João's choice. He’s a great player but it depends on the manager's ideas! He will have a great future, in United or somewhere else."

MEN Sport revealed back in September that United would be targeting key signings in four areas next summer. One of those is midfield, with Ten Hag again expected to attempt to bolster his options in the middle of the park.

Casemiro will be 32 by the time the 2023/24 season comes to a close, as will Christian Eriksen. There's every chance Ten Hag could again look to sign a young midfielder and 19-year-old Neves would certainly fit the bill.
