Manchester United need to repeat transfer trick for a third time this summer with forgotten star

It will be a year next month since Hannibal Mejbri enjoyed the finest moment of his Manchester United career to date.

After stepping off the bench with United 2-0 down at home to Brighton & Hove Albion, the Reds slipped even further behind seven minutes after his introduction. Trailing 3-0, United were staring down the barrel of a third defeat from their opening five Premier League matches.

However, Hannibal gave the scoreline a slightly more respectable look two minutes later, crashing in a brilliant effort from 25 yards out. It marked his first goal in United colours.

Despite it proving to be nothing more than a consolation strike, it was a moment that clearly meant the world to him. He had been at United for just over four years when he scored at the Stretford End and it felt like it could have been a breakthrough moment in his Old Trafford career. However, he has made a paltry eight appearances for the club since, meaning it was nothing more than a false dawn.

The Tunisian, who has recently entered the final year of his contract at Old Trafford, left United on loan in January, joining Spanish side Sevilla. It was a move that signalled a step up from the time that he had spent on loan at Birmingham City the previous season.
