Manchester United need to avoid doing something they've not done in 14 years this weekend

The last time Manchester United were beaten at Turf Moor, Erik ten Hag hadn’t even started his managerial career.

You’d have to go back to August 2009 for Burnley's last victory over United on home turf when Robbie Blake scored the winner. The strike gave Burnley a dream start to life in the Premier League.

Since then, United have managed five victories at Turf Moor, having drawn twice, with the last coming in February 2020 under Ralf Rangnick, but Saturday's task will be very different to the ones United have experienced previously.

Vincent Kompany’s men are seeking their first win in the league since returning to the big time, having fallen short against Nottingham Forest last time out.

The Clarets’ only victory of the season so far came in the League Cup against Forest thanks to a late Zeki Amdouni goal - he also managed to get himself on the scoresheet in the league meeting.

Kompany's playing style is similar to Pep Guardiola's. Having spent 11 years as a player in the blue half of Manchester, winning four Premier Leagues at City as captain, the clash against United is sure to give Kompany added motivation, with his assistant Craig Bellamy also having played for United’s noisy neighbours.

Speaking on Thursday, Kompany said: “We’ve had three games against three of the top eight sides in the league. I’m really looking forward to this game in terms of seeing if we’ve made those steps forward and I really believe in the attacking threat we have.”
