NFL legend JJ Watt praises Bruno Fernandes in classy Manchester United message

NFL legend J.J.Watt showed his class by praising Manchester United’s winning goal over Burnley.

Erik ten Hag’s side bounced back from their 4-3 defeat to Bayern Munich in midweek to earn an important three points at Turf Moor. The Reds have largely been unconvincing so far this season but Bruno Fernandes’ inch-perfect finish from Jonny Evans’ lofted pass proved to be the difference between the two sides.

It was a victory that lifted United to eighth in the table and staved off the prospect of four straight defeats. Burnley refused to go down without a fight, though, as Vincent Kompany made Andre Onana and the rest of United’s backline work hard for their second clean sheet of the season.

Former NFL star Watt was watching the game intently, having become a minority investor in Burnley, shortly after the Clarets’ promotion to the Premier League was confirmed last season. The three-time defensive player of the year has regularly displayed his allegiance to Burnley across social media but could not find fault with Fernandes’ finish on Saturday.

Posting on X, formerly known as Twitter, at half-time, Watt wrote: “Scoreline doesn’t reflect the run of play in the first half, but that’s the way it goes sometimes. Hate to say, but it was a class finish from Bruno.”
