Manchester United legend Paul Scholes 'top drawer' with support for Bolton Wanderers star

Dapo Afolayan has hailed Manchester United legend Paul Scholes as 'top drawer' with the support has has lended the Bolton Wanderers star.

United legend Scholes managed Oldham Athletic for little over a month at the start of 2019. Wanderers star Afolayan was on loan at Oldham from West Ham United when Scholes arrived and later made 10 appearances for the Latics in the second half of the 2018/19 season.

Scholes oversaw seven games during his spell at Boundary Park and picked up just one win in that time. But his spell at the Latics was cut short as he resigned from his post due to claimed interference from club owner Abdallah Lemsagam as he ended his spell at his hometown club after 31 days.

Afolayan has previously spoken on his on his time under the United legend. He wished Scholes had been at Oldham longer as Afolayan gave overwhelmingly positive reviews of how the retired midfielder was on the training ground.

The Wanderers top scorer this season with 14 goals has repeated his view that the former United midfielder was the best player in training still, despite being retired. Afolayan admits he was 'gutted' when Scholes departed.

But he has spoken to the former England midfielder since and has described Scholes as 'top drawer' with his support for him.

Afolayan told the Manchester Evening News: "He was the best player by far in training. A really good guy, a good manager, and it was gutting when he left. But I have spoken to him since and he is top drawer.

“He has been really supportive and to have someone like that saying good things about you in any regard, I’ll take that any day of the week."
