Paul Scholes brands Edinson Cavani 'a disgrace' and sends warning to Manchester United defender

Paul Scholes has branded Edinson Cavani 'a disgrace' after an injury-ridden campaign for Manchester United.

Cavani managed just 20 appearances for the Reds in all competitions, scoring just twice. The 35-year-old suffered three injuries during the course of the season which kept him out for long spells.

His contract at Old Trafford runs out in June and he is expected to leave the club for a spell at another European team. Scholes made it clear on Premier League Productions that he will not miss the Uruguayan.

" Cavani I think was a disgrace this year, he hardly ever played," he explained. "He pulled out of the Middlesbrough game because he had to travel back from wherever he was. Funnily enough, since that Middlesbrough game I think I heard last night United have won only five out of 18 games or something since then.

"It’s been embarrassing, this manager [Erik ten Hag] now needs backing. Who’s going to help him do that? The club upstairs is still a bit of a mess. We don’t really know."

Scholes' impassioned rant was not done there as he sent a warning to one United defender ahead of the 2022/23 season. "Do you know what, we go back to last year as well we thought Ronaldo’s coming in, Varane is coming in," he added.

"You are thinking: 'Yeah, here we go.' Varane’s been disappointing.

"I think he’s got away with it a little bit. A lot of injuries, hardly played a game."
