Nico Williams, Kylian Mbappe and the 2024 free agents Manchester United could target in January

The next transfer window is never too far away and Manchester United will already be making tentative plans for January.

While United tend to do the majority of their business during the summer windows, activity midway through a Premier League season has still been apparent, with Wout Weghorst and Marcel Sabitzer joining the club on loan in January last term. Erik ten Hag's side have made an underwhelming start to the season thus far, currently sitting tenth in the Premier League and losing both their Champions League group fixtures to Bayern Munich and Galatasaray respectively.

United will hope to restore some of the form that saw them finish third last season and win the Carabao Cup in Ten Hag's first season in charge at the club - and recruiting players in January could prove the difference come the end of the season and there are several high-profile names that could be available at a bargain price - or on an advanced agreement ahead of summer - as they enter the final months of their respective contracts.

Nico Williams

The Atletico Bilbao winger has been linked with a move to Old Trafford as the January window approaches, and the 21-year-old could reignite United's misfiring front line that have managed just nine goals in their opening eight Premier League fixtures.

Williams enjoyed a breakthrough campaign last term, earning a call-up to the Spain squad and travelling to the World Cup in Qatar.

The Spaniard has started the new season in impressive fashion, with four assists in six La
