Manchester United have five clear transfer problems to solve in three days

Manchester United are heading into the final days of the summer transfer window with work to do.

Erik ten Hag has reinforced his squad this summer with an initial outlay of £166.2m that could rise by a further £16.4m with add-ons for the signings of Mason Mount, Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund. The United boss headed into the summer with the primary aims of adding a dynamic midfielder and a top-class centre-forward, with the jury still out on whether he has achieved either of these aims following an underwhelming start to life at Old Trafford for both Mount and Hojlund.

United then needed to act following David de Gea's decision not to renew his contract at Old Trafford and reunited Ten Hag with his former Ajax goalkeeper Onana. And now, with just days left in the window, United are running out of time to add further new names to their squad.

A new back-up goalkeeper appears the most likely addition to be made in the final days of the window, while United may also need to make an emergency move for a new left-back following Luke Shaw's injury.

The Reds have been keeping their options open all summer regarding further additions in midfield. The latter would be dependent on departures, however, so while United have looked light in the middle of the park in their opening fixtures, there are no guarantees that signings will be made in that area.

United's struggles in attack in their opening two Premier League games also led to rumours that Erik ten Hag might look to add another forward to his ranks before the window closed. That means United may need to bring in a goalkeeper, centre-back, left-back, central midfielder and striker
