Manchester United great makes Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi point about Marcus Rashford

Manchester United have been told to consider taking Marcus Rashford out of the firing line until the forward can rediscover his goal-den touch for the Old Trafford giants.

After plundering 30 goals in all competitions last season, the 25-year-old has so far been unable to replicate that form domestically this campaign. Rashford has only netted once in 10 outings for United.

But the Academy graduate did manage to find the target for England on Tuesday night. Rashford produced the goods in an important win for the Three Lions as they booked their place at Euro 2024 next summer with a 3-1 victory over Italy at Wembley.

Rashford combined with man-of-the-match Jude Bellingham before finding a trademark finish. Harry Kane also helped himself to another international double.

Speaking about Rashford and his domestic struggles this season, ex-United man Andy Cole told Betfred: "When I was a footballer, whenever I lacked belief I wanted to stay in the starting XI in a bid to regain my confidence. However, now that I'm retired, I can see why it's good for some players to be taken out of the firing line."

Cole, who scored 121 goals in 275 matches for United in addition to winning 10 major trophies, added: "If you don't count last season for Marcus and you look at the two seasons prior to that, his form was the same as it is now and you can only ask Marcus what the problem is.
