Roy Keane gives Marcus Rashford verdict amid recent Manchester United struggles

Roy Keane is backing Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford to rediscover a true sense of form ahead of this afternoon's derby against Manchester City at Old Trafford.

Rashford, who scored the winner in their last meeting in M16, has scored just one goal in all competitions so far this season, finding the net in the Reds' 3-1 defeat to Arsenal at the start of September. He, like the rest of the team, has experienced an underwhelming campaign so far and is in desperate need of a spark to resurrect his fortunes.

The winger's barren run in front of goal has meant he has come back down to earth with a bump after scoring 30 goals in all competitions last season. His career was resurrected by Erik ten Hag, meaning he became the first United player to score 30 goals in a single season since Robin van Persie a decade earlier.

Having shone so brightly last season, big things were expected of Rashford this term, meaning his poor start to the season has perhaps been viewed more negatively than it would have been previously. But for former Reds captain Keane, believes it is harsh to compare his struggles so far this season to last term's success.

"It is hard to back up what he did last year because it was amazing," Keane told Sky Sports. "He is struggling, but I don't think it should affect his confidence too much because he has done it before.

"He scored a brilliant goal for England last week [vs Italy] and you would like someone to produce a big moment for United, and it could be Marcus. It's not great stats, the team are struggling, but he has to back it up - he's been on this road before.
